Guest Reviews [A Series of Unfortunate Events books 1-6] -My 11 year old niece

A Series of Unfortunate Events

The Bad Beginning- Book 1
Dear Reader,

I'm sorry to say that the book you are holding in your hands is extremely unpleasant. It tells an unhappy tale about three very unlucky children. Even though they are charming and clever, the Baudelaire siblings lead lives filled with misery and woe. From the very first page of this book when the children are at the beach and receive terrible news, continuing on through the entire story, disaster lurks at their heels. One might say they are magnets for misfortune.

In this short book alone, the three youngsters encounter a greedy and repulsive villain, itchy clothing, a disastrous fire, a plot to steal their fortune, and cold porridge for breakfast.

It is my sad duty to write down these unpleasant tales, but there is nothing stopping you from putting this book down at once and reading something happy, if you prefer that sort of thing.

With all due respect,
Lemony Snicket

Books 2-6

Andi's Review
of the series so far

Describe the personalities of the three Baudelaire children:

Violet is an inventor. She pulls back her hair when she is inventing things.

Klaus likes to read. He remembers most of the stuff that he reads.

Sunny likes to bite things. She has three very sharp teeth to bite with.

Who do you think was the bravest of the bunch? Or who remained the calmest under pressure?

I think the bravest was.. Violet. She puts her life in danger to help her siblings and I think Sunny remained the calmest under pressure. Because she was a baby. And no one could understand her.

Which character out of the 6 books was your favorite (does not have to be a main character):

I think that Jerome and Esmé Squalor are my favorite because Jerome was not mean to the children and Esmé liked to do stuff that was "in" and "out" as in in style or out of style.

Describe Count Olaf and characteristics of his personality that made you dislike him:

He was one of the distant cousins of the children. But he wanted to steal the Baudelaire fortune. He was underhanded and sneaky.

Which book out of the 6 was your favorite? Why?

I think my favorite was The Reptile Room. I like reptiles, so it was interesting to me.

What emotions did you experience while reading the series? Which emotion did you experience most of?

I felt bad for the Baudelaire kids because they had to go through all kinds of things. There were some parts that made me laugh. I think it mostly made me feel suspense , because it would stop at the best part of the book and do a new book. (a cliffhanger)

What there anything about the books that you disliked?

Not really.

What do you think was the coolest part of the books?

When they met the quagmire triplets.

Are you planning on finishing the series?

Yes. I am on the seventh book now.
