***ALL FIVE GAMES!!!***

An unclaimed land in the Scottish isles is ruled by the male and female victors in a series of war games every five years. Named Chief and Lady of the land, they rule the vast holding, and protect the people by divine right, until the next game begins.

After her brother's death Ceana is named laird. The only way for her clan to survive the ravages of the Highlands is to join in the war games. Bastard son of a powerful earl, Macrath is placed in the games by his vengeful stepmother. He must survive for the ultimate retribution.

Ceana can't afford to like the formidable, captivating, Highlander who seems to be following her, and yet she can't seem to walk away. Macrath wants nothing more than to protect the enchanting warrior lass, but doing so may get in the way of his need for revenge. What starts out as a race to survive turns into passion to endure together.

May the gods be forever in their favor...

MY REVIEW!

Ceana's brother was just murdered and now she has become Laird. Their clan has always had hard times and she plans to change that by entering the war games. Macrath, is not entering the games by his own choice, but he is going to prove a point, he is a survivor and he wants to live to spite his hateful stepmother. They are two unlikely allies and yet they can’t seem to stay away from each other. Ceana is the reason and Macrath is the strength and hopefully together they can survive the games.

There can only be one female victor and one male victor, let the games begin.

Highland hunger starts off with how the games came to be. Make sure you read this because it will be mention throughout the book, and if you don’t read it you will have no clue what they are talking about.

This book had me at Highland war games. How cool is that….ok people getting killed isn’t cool…but you know what I mean :P It’s like The Hunger Games, but with highlanders and games that surpassed what The Hunger games dished out. The games in this book were horrible and yeah some of it was torture…. Some of the things that happened to the character outside of the games were hard to read about, especially Macrath. I wanted to scream at the injustice!  This book was brutal and you better have a strong stomach before you read this. It was entertaining to boot, but yeah tough stuff. There are a lot of side characters they play huge roles in the book and I really came to like some of them and wept for them. One death was particularly hard on me because one I felt sorry for him and the other was I cared about him. It was a horrible way to die. This book was combined to include all five games, but there is till more to come. YAY! I want to read more Macrath and Ceana. I will definitely be on the look out for the new book and will be checking out Eliza Knights other books, her writing style is one I like. It was easy to read and flowed smoothly. I’ve been reading books lately that I have to pause and think about who said what. This book was a pleasant relief. I recommend this book for readers that are 18+ that liked The Hunger Games, but make no mistake this is not the Hunger Games, you have been warned.

May you read this book and love it. :D

So let’s talk about the games. There are five games that each contestant must go through, that is if you survive all of them. At the end there will be one female and one male that will be victors. What do they win if they survive? They will wed and become chief and lady over all the land for five years. After the five years is up they can step down from the position and go back to their original clan or they can enter the war games again. Sounds pretty simple right, but it is far from it. Each of the games will test your strength, endurance, mental, and your will to live.

Overall: Highland Hunger was full of horrifying war games, sadistic characters, and dare I say it, romance.

Ceana starts off as a strong female character with her mighty bow, but that slowly dies down when she reaches the games. She still talks a big game and does show some grit, but Macrath usually does everything for her. That’s the only problem I had with the book. She is really likeable though and I wanted her to succeed.

Macrath is gruff, fierce and a mighty warrior. I pity the fool that has to go up against him. Lol I see him as being ruggedly handsome, like Russell Crowe. He puts on a strong face, but at one point he was broken. He didn’t stay down for long and that only made him that much stronger.

4 STARS
