Today we have a review stop for A World Apart. The Tour is also offering a giveaway to a randomly drawn commenter. (: Lets get to it.
A World Apart
Demetrius makes his first mistake when he lets his best friend Halcyon marry Eleyna, the love of his life, without saying a word. On the day of the wedding, he walks away from the Elencheran town of Dove's Meadow and joins the army.
He makes his second mistake when the pirate Black Iris tricks him into letting dozens of men, women and children die in a fire. Demetrius is imprisoned in grief and disgrace.
But he can atone. The Black Iris is dead. The Ivory Rose has risen to the top of the pirates and is leading brutal raids on the coast. If Demetrius can capture and kill her, he'll win his pardon.
And then Demetrius discovers the Ivory Rose is Eleyna. He must decide which will be his third mistake: losing his last chance at a pardon or destroying the one woman he's ever loved.
My short Review :)
What stuck out: I really like how the focus of the story changed from character to character throughout the beginning of the story. The first few chapters were solely about Demetrius's grandfather up until his son was born. Then the story followed both the grandfather and the father. After Demetrius is born, the story focuses on all three of them. The story then focuses soley on Demetrius throughout his childhood. When he meets Halcyon and Elyna, the story includes them as well. After that the story alternates between Elyna and Demetrius. I really liked the idea of getting to know each of the characters personally.
While this book is incredibly long, it was an enjoyable fantasy set in an interesting new world. (:
David will be awarding a $25 Amazon Gift Card to a randomly drawn commenter during this tour and the book

I really love the world building! The characters are also quite interesting, I felt sorry for Demetrius, since he didn't get the woman he wanted(I'am still not finished) and then was sentenced to the Pit.ReplyDelete
Thanks for commenting Emiliana and for reading.Delete
I think Demetrius really despised me by the time I had finished the book. I did feel bad about it on occasion :)
Thank you so much for your review, Ryan, and for your support with the tour. I am extremely grateful :)ReplyDelete

Yes, I don't think any of the characters were overly happy with me by the end. I felt a bit bad. I blame them for making me write their story so soon.
It's a great read! Do you have more books planed?ReplyDelete
Thank you, Lyra.Delete
Yes, I've just finished the 1st draft if my latest Elenchera book - Ansel's Remorse.

Thank you, Vera. I hope you enjoy it :)Delete
Being forced to kill his former love for his freedom. What a terrible choice to have to make. It sounds like a great story that is worth the length.ReplyDelete

Thank you for commenting, Shannon. Yes, it's quite a dilemma for Demetrius. He wasn't happy when I told him what I had in mind :)Delete
Is the next book by chance about Demetrius's son?ReplyDelete

Thanks for commenting, Anas.Delete
No, the next book is an entirely different story. The Elencheran Chronicles are self-contained tales rather than a series telling one long narrative.
My first book, Fezariu's Epiphany, is in the same world but focuses on different characters entirely.
I found your review very helpful thank you. I actually love long fantasy reads.ReplyDelete
Thank you for commenting, Mary. I thought it was a great review too. Very kind feedback :)Delete
