Review of H2O by Austin Boyd and Brannon Hollingsworth

Goodreads
H2O is a contemporary crossover women’s novel that tells the story of Kate Pepper, a successful young business woman in Seattle whose life is suddenly—and strangely—turned upside down. Unexplainable visions torment her every time she gets wet. Sinking into despair, frantic to avoid water at any cost, Kate ultimately finds romance and redemption through the advice of simple people who love her for who she is, not what she was.

Kate Pepper has it all . . . a razor-sharp intellect, perfect health, stunning beauty, a wildly successful career, and all the money she can spend. Or rather, she thinks she has it all.
Despite the perfect shell, there’s something dark inside Kate. Terrible visions send her into a deep depression and her world crumbles. All her business savvy and elite connections don’t make a difference; she has lost control.

Who will save her? Xavier, her predatory boyfriend? Or Candice, the Down syndrome waitress at her favorite coffee shop? At the bottom of her dark well, desperate to get out of the water, there’s nowhere to reach but up.

H2O—a fascinating allegorical look at success, sanity and spiritual redemption in a young woman’s relationship with water.

My Thoughts

Ok, I got this book from Netgalley a while back and finally got some time to read it. I want to say ahead of time that while i enjoyed this book, I feel like I was duped. lol. I was unaware that this book would have such a large religious element to it. I mean I know the description said spiritual redemption, but whoah. I mean this book was out of left field for me. I was expecting a sort of paranormal setting when I requested it from Netgalley, but I was not expecting such a religious element. That is not to say that I regret reading it. By the time I figured out it was a christian book, I was too deep into the story to get out. I mean, i wanted to finish this book. I wanted to know what happened that she needed redemption for. I wanted to know who the mysterious man on the IM was. I wanted to know what the mysterious messages she received meant. I NEEDED to know. I have always had questions reguarding religion. I am not sure where I stand on it. This book kind of touched base on what I do know. It did not try to force the religion down my throat. It simply stated a few widely known things about God, but it did so through the story. And it was a wonderful story.

Kate Pepper is a serious wonder woman. She can do anything that she puts her mind to. And while her boyfriend is a Grade- A Jerk, she hates the mediocre and he is anything but. She lives her life in the fast lane. Best of everything. All in an attempt to escape her parents. While her parents were not mean, her mother was very strict due to her firm catholic beliefs. This sort of helped turn Kate off of religion at a young age. While it was being forced on her and ruining her life (her mother was a bit eccentric), she wanted nothing to do with it. And after an event that changed her forever at seventeen, she moved on to bigger and- lets face it- more expensive things. One day, out of the blue, she is washing fish in the sink and when the water touches her, she blacks out. This begins a pattern of her having an episode every time she comes into contact with pure water. Sometimes she loses seconds and sometimes she loses hours- even days. Each time she has one of these episodes, she experiences a very real Hallucination- or at least what she believes are hallucinations. In each Hallucination, she is Water of some kind- or very close to water. She feels what the water feels, she thinks like the water. And in every Hallucination, the same man appears. He is pure, dressed in all white and his mere presence is soothing. And whenever he speaks to Kate in her water form, she feels loved. interpret what you will. That is what Kate has to do. Only she interprets that she is losing it. insane. loco. I'll leave you with that. but there is one more thing I would like to address.

The imagery in this book was beautiful. Whenever Kate was in her Vision/Hallucination- or whatever it was, she always described the situation in such beautiful terms. She relayed the feelings of the water in a well- reaching out to be loved. I mean water with feeling just created such a beautiful image to me for some reason. I do not know. maybe I am alone in this, but I love that image. This book was a joy to read, even if I was expecting something different. It was a pleasant surprise. :)

Yes, these are tuna. Kate liked to make Sushi-mi. so I relate tuna with this book. :P

Review of Mary by Ann Haines

Goodreads
When Mary leaves her home in London she does it in silence. Moving to Bell House seems like the perfect fresh start for the Pendleton family, even if Mary isn't quite on board. But when things start to fall in to place, she finds that life in the village of Eires Green is better than she'd hoped. Her new friends are a breath of fresh air and Zach is the most gorgeous and charming boy she has ever met.
When she finds old photographs in her attic she is captivated by the age and history of Bell House and a strange feeling of familiarity sets in. She feels the same way about her kooky friend Peggy who seems drawn to Mary's Grandmother and far from happy about her feelings for Zach. But soon Mary is faced with the fact that Bell House has an even more dark and tragic past than her own.
Now Mary Pendleton is about to find out that running from your past is not an easy thing. Even if the past you're running from doesn't belong to you

My Thoughts

I requested this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Sorry it took me forever to read this. my computer was wonky for a while there. and then i forgot about it. Which is a bad thing to do. but i did finally finish it and i must say i am impressed. :)Mary is a sort of modern day twist on the childhood story of Bloody Mary. I loved the spooky in this book. If you want scary- don't read this book while you are home alone (stupid me!)- then you should read this book. I do not read a lot of ghost stories simply for the terror and this one will probably be my last for a long time. But it was very good. It is set in a small town in England and full of mysterious characters. you never know what a character's angle is or what side they are on. the main character, Mary, moves to the small town after some trouble with her family back home. When she arrives, she makes a lot of new friends. Then she finds out that someone might not want her in her new house. then all hell breaks loose. :)
the only thing i did not like is the relationship development. The story is very fast- paced when it comes to Mary making new friends. Her romantic relationship even developed rather fast. She was kissing the boy after having only met him twice. I know it was not necessarily a long story, so there was not too much time to dwell on characters, when that was not the main focus of the story, but it still sort of bothered me. other than that, the book was A-ok. :)

[Review] The Reluctant Amazon

The last thing Rebecca Massee expects on her wedding day is to go from jilted kindergarten teacher to Amazonian Earth warrior. But when she causes an earthquake after her groom says I don’t, she discovers that not only does she possess incredible powers, she is one of four lost chosen sisters who must fight to keep humanity safe from rogue gods and demons. Luckily she has help: ruggedly handsome Scottish warrior Artair MacKay, her protector and teacher.

An immortal, Artair has trained countless warriors for more than four hundred years. He understands Rebecca’s confusion at the new world she’s been thrust into and worries she is too emotionally vulnerable, but that doesn’t stop his growing feelings for the beautiful and fearless woman.

When an evil force threatens to destroy the Amazons, Rebecca must claim her full powers--but they come at a cost. Can she sacrifice the man she loves if it means saving the world?

Review

I loved the general storyline of the book. A woman finds out she has incredible powers after being rejected on her wedding day and must master her powers.

Rebecca was a pretty cool character. She was not perfect and had a lot of doubts about her new-found position as a warrior. I loved the bond she develops between her fellow Amazons. The other amazons were pretty awesome and I loved how they have their own elements.

Her relationship with Artair was a bit fast and had an insta- love feel to it, of which I am not a fan. He grew on me, due to his hotness, but they really needed to develop more before professing their love and the like. I liked the forbidden romance aspect of the novel, though.

The villains were pretty bad, so I was happy about that. It led to some really entertaining fight scenes. Although the action and myth were second to Artair and Rebecca's attractions.

I would definitely recommend it to romance readers who love aspects of myth and magic and fans of hot Scottish warriors and kick- butt heroines.

It’s a Cat, it’s a Frog, NO it’s a COVER REVEAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m so excited to be having another cover reveal on the blog. I want to give a big thanks to AToMRTours for letting us be a part. :D So let’s get to the good part……

Book description:

The Goddess Test meets Dexter in an edgy, compelling debut about one teen’s quest for revenge…no matter how far it takes her.

Cory Graff is not alone in her head. Bound to a deal of desperation made when she was a child, Cory’s mind houses the Furies—the hawk and the serpent—lingering always, waiting for her to satisfy their bloodlust. After escaping the asylum where she was trapped for years, Cory knows how to keep the Furies quiet. By day, she lives a normal life, but by night, she tracks down targets the Furies send her way. And she brings down Justice upon them.

Cory’s perfected her system of survival, but when she meets a mysterious boy named Niko at her new school, she can’t figure out how she feels about him. For the first time, the Furies are quiet in her head around a guy. But does this mean that Cory’s finally found someone who she can trust, or are there greater factors at work?

As Cory’s mind becomes a battlefield, with the Furies fighting for control, Cory will have to put everything on the line to hold on to what she’s worked so hard to build.

… I think the cover is pretty good. I really like all the statues in the background. The girl in the cover doesn't really fit with the background. It looks really awkward. What do you guys think? I'd love to know what your thoughts are on the cover.

Review of The Pleasure Master by Nina Bangs 18+

My Thoughts

okay, this book was freaking hilarious. My favorite character wasn't really a character per say. He was a toy. A toy with a rotten sense of humor and a love of movie quotes. My favorite quote that he said was "If I'm not back in five minutes.... just wait longer." haha. Jim Carrey. sorry, I love Jim Carrey. I loved Kathy and her tough New York attitude. she was so sarcastic. I am also a huge fan of sarcasm. all in all, it was a cute read full of time travel, humor, and three- legged cats (okay. one three- legged cat). I guess I cannot complain too much about the excess talk of sex and seduction when the title of the book is The Pleasure Master. haha. anyway. It was really cute. but i liked it because it made me laugh. There were some things not to love about it. but then it is full of hot scottish guys running around in kilts...so yeah. :)

There was actually not as much sex as you might think. lol.i know you all are thinking PORN. omg. no. There is a lot of talk of sex. Like i will please you like you would never believe, woman! (lol. not in those words) but mostly this book was funny and full of movie quotes.  I am not feeling a detailed review today,so forgive me. :)

( i know, i know. shortest review ever!)

Yes, these are hourglasses. :D time- travel

Wishlist Wednesday #10

Wishlist Wednesday is a book blog hop hosted @ Pen to Paper where we will post about one book per week that has been on our wishlist for some time, or just added (it's entirely up to you), that we can't wait to get off the wishlist and onto our wonderful shelves.

Tiffany:
I don't do dangerious,  Smart, ü ber-careful, ordinary Samantha-that's me. But I just couldn't pass up a surprise kiss from my number-one unattainable crush. A kiss that did something to me...something strange. Now I feel hungry all the time, but not for food. It's like part of me is missing-and I don't know if I can get it back.

Then there's Bishop. At first I thought he was just a street kid, but the secrets he's keeping are as intense as his unearthly blue eyes. If he's what I think he is, he may be the only one who can help me. But something terrifying is closing in, and the one chance Bishop and I have to stop it means losing everything I ever wanted and embracing the darkness inside me....

NIGHTWATCHERS

When angels and demons must work together, something beyond evil is rising...

I've heard so many great things about this book and I really want to read it. Ok, the cover has a lot to do with it as well. ;) Is this book about angels? I have no clue. I really want to know why she feels hungry all the time and what she wants to eat. Did her crush take a part of her soul? Does she want to take souls, eat flesh? I WANT TO KNOW! LOL

Snyder:

Life sucks for orphans Callum Tate and Harper Bailey.

Kicked out of their foster homes because they suffer the 'eighteen disease' with nothing but a hundred dollar check from the government and a pat on the back, they're forced to rely on a system that failed them miserably.

So they sit. They sit inside Social Services, waiting for their social workers to call their names and offer them the miracle they know will never come but they sit anyway because they have nowhere else to go, no other options on their very literal and figurative empty plates.

But as they sit, they notice the other. Although captivated, they each come to the conclusion that life is complicated enough without throwing in a boiling tension that can't ever be acted upon because they're both too busy thinking about where their next meal will come from but when their names are called and both are placed on a year long waiting list for permanent housing, suddenly relying on each other seems like a very viable plan B.

And, oh, how lovely Plan B's can be.

Well, except for the psycho from Harper's past that haunts her and, oh, yeah, there's the little issue that neither of them knows they're in love with the other.

Needless to say, Callum & Harper's life just got a bit more complicated.

“One day, you and I are gonna’ wake up and be alright. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow but one day. One day. I promise you.” - Callum Tate

Snyder_this book has been on my wishlist for a while now, i need to read this. *sigh* I think it is from the end of last year... can't wait.

Review of Onyx (Lux #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Being connected to Daemon Black sucks…

Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I’ve sworn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But we’ve got bigger problems.

Something worse than the Arum has come to town…

The Department of Defense are here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we're linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And there's this new boy in school who’s got a secret of his own. He knows what’s happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that's possible. Against all common sense, I'm falling for Daemon. Hard.

But then everything changes…

I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?

No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies…

My thoughts:
Oh my lord. This book was amazing. That woman really outdoes herself with this series. like.. wow.

For the .0000000000001 percent of the population who did not fall utterly and irrevocably in love with the rude, cocky, butt- hole daemon in Obsidian, You stand no chance against the sweet, sexy, amazing, cocky, smart-ass, protective, jealous, a-freaking-mazing Daemon in Onyx. seriously. like, prepare yourself. I mean, there is no way I am not dreaming about being Katy tonight. ;)

I wanted to collect some amazing excerpts from this book, but i was so caught up in it, i did not save page numbers and I am drawing a blank. There is Daemon point of view chapter and since it is near the end and i love it, i shall share that:
____________________________________________________________________________

[ Kat tipped her head back, meeting my stare. Her throat worked on her next words. “I think I might love you.”

Air punched out of my lungs. I held her tight, and I knew right then I would burn down the whole universe for her if I had to. I would do anything to keep her safe. Kill. Heal. Die. Anything. Because she was my everything.

And I wanted to tell her so, but I didn’t want to tempt the universe. Bad things happened to the people I loved. ]
____________________________________________________________________________

MOTHER FREAKING SWOON!

ok, serious review time:

I liked this book better than the first one, i think, which is hard considering the first one was a five- star for me. ;)

Katy is much more involved with her book blog (i can relate. haha. i'm sure you can too). This book is more touchy -feely, which I do not mind. Kat talks a lot more about her father and how his death affects her even years later (which I will admit was breaking my heart and I could have done without. but only because I know how she feels) this is at first. once the book gets more serious, Katy kind of morphs into a person she does not like at all. She is ignoring her friends and just trying to find a place in a world filled with aliens and humans where she is kind of both. However, she is aware of what she is doing and feels bad about it and is still , at her base, an awesome friend and a badass blogger. ;)  I still love Katy. She is a constant source of hilarity. throughout the book, she is struggling to control her new alien-ness and some funny stuff happens. haha.

I love Daemon's character in this book. We peeled back a few of his layers in the first book. I mean, obviously he was a complete hurtful ass in Obsidian. But we all loved him because he had his reasons. He wanted to protect his alien family and had firsthand knowledge that falling for or even becoming friends with a human never ended well. So he was a jerk to keep her at a distance. But we occassionally got a peek into his softer side. we were just as confused as katy at first. In the second book, after he realizes he doesn't want to fight his feeling for her (which were nothing new) he goes into full romance mode. I mean, home-boy was bringing gifts, flowers and chocolate. I mean, when you think about it, it's actually kind of cruel to dream up such an amazing guy. WHO LIVES IN FICTIONLAND. So thank you, Mrs. Armentrout. for giving me a dream I cannot pursue. lol. moving on...

Dee was not in this book as much as in the first one. A few new characters play integral roles in this book and a lot of relationships shift. I don't want to spoil it for anybody (more than i have) but a certain new character that i sort of maybe liked a little......well all i can say is that you never really know where you stand with someone. I will leave it at that. We see a little (tiny) bit of Ash and her brothers. We see more of Adam, at least. Katy's two girl friends have smaller roles as well. But yeah, like Obsidian, this book is mainly between Katy and her Daemon. Oh, I forgot to mention, we see a little bit more of her mom in this one. :) And matthew (older luxe/ teacher) has a larger role as well.

so i rate this sucker......
5 cute little aliens!

This book is full of aliens, alien powers, government cover-ups, hot boys, betrayal, heartache, death, and enough romance to fry a computer!

So much happens in this story and, like the first book, it ends on the tail end of one conflict and the beginning of another. This book was an adventure and I am so ready for the next installment. bring it on, Mrs. Armentrout. I AM READY. O.o

{Review} Flight by Alyssa Rose Ivy

Sometimes you just have to take flight.

A summer in New Orleans is exactly what Allie needs before starting college. Accepting her dad’s invitation to work at his hotel offers an escape from her ex-boyfriend and the chance to spend the summer with her best friend. Meeting a guy is the last thing on her mind—until she sees Levi.

Unable to resist the infuriating yet alluring Levi, Allie finds herself at the center of a supernatural society and forced to decide between following the path she has always trusted or saving a city that might just save her.

My Review

Allison, who likes being called Allie, decides that she needs to get away for the summer. So her and her best friend Jess, go to New Orleans to go work for her dad, at a hotel that he just bought. While they are there Allie meets Levi. There attraction to each other is obvious, but Allie won’t admit it. Levi has a secret that he has never told any other girl before Allie. Will he tell Allie and will she accept it? Things get real complicated after one glorious night and Allie can’t handle it. What would you do if someone withheld the truth from you? Will Allie be strong enough to face the truth or will she succumb to the pressure? Her choice could mean the destruction of a city and the one she loves.

I was crying at the end of this book. I don't know if anyone else will but I did. How in the world can you end a book like that? Why Mrs. Ivy, why?!?!?! I can't wait for the next one. It's probably not going to be out until next year. NOOOO!!!! As well as everyone knows, I love a good supernatural book and this is one of them. This book was so unique. I haven’t read anything quite like it, which I liked. I mean really, I’ve never heard of their kind before and it was intriguing to learn about a different kind of supernatural. All the action didn’t start until the end of the book, but I’m sure there is going to be a lot more in the second one. If you want a read that is new and exciting, this is for you.

Allie is a pretty stand up girl. She's nice but not too nice, she get mean if she has to. She doesn’t take any of Levi's crap and that's what I like most about her. She's smart, funny, and has a backbone. I can’t wait to see how she grows in the next book. Oh, and she just made me super mad at the end of the book. What was she THINKING!!!!!!

Levi oh Levi where in the world do I start. I know Levi is going to be a heart throb for a lot of people. He is so flipping HOT!!!! But he is also very frustrating. That just adds to his appeal though. I can't wait to see what happens in the next book with him.

Now let’s talk about the cover. This cover is smoking HOT!!! You can’t deny it, you know it is. What I also about the cover is this scene actually happens in the book. I was like yes, when it was happening. It was a very hot scene and the models do it justice. I love when a cover actually portrays what's in the book. I hope the second book cover is just as hot. ;)

{Review} Living Sensitive by C.M. Rawdon

In the small town of Willow Eve, Arkansas, feisty bartender, Delia Rhodes, lives a pretty normal life; if you consider having a ghost for a roommate, pixies as best friends and being one of the rarest hybrids to exist, normal. Her life is turned upside down when someone or something begins kidnapping pixies and she is forced to find out who is behind it and why. If that wasn’t enough for her to deal with, Delia meets a delicious vampire hybrid with a very important event coming up; his registration. Will he survive? Will Delia solve the kidnappings or get dragged into the middle of something much deeper?

Delia is a hybrid. She is part Shifter and part Sensitive. What is a Sensitive?  It is where she can touch someone and can tell what they have done or experienced. She works at a karaoke bar. When she first meets Draven, she is confused at her emotions b/c she is also attracted to Eli. Delia has to put her love life on hold b/c someone is kidnapping Pixies. Can Delia find the kidnappers before it’s too late?

I really enjoyed this book!! It was a real quick read for me and I just wish it was longer. I read it in about 4 hours and that is with a lot of distractions AKA my nephews. Well anyways, if you know me you know that I love shifter books. So, I was totally fangirling over this book. She can shift into anything and Draven is any girls dream come true. He is also a hybrid; he is part wolf and part vampire. You can’t get any hotter than that!!!!!This book would have got a five but I think the romance was a little too quick. I know they have a connection but I would have loved for them to get to know each other a little better.

Cover talk: The cover is nothing special but I love it. I was getting tired of pretty girl in dresses. I love the simpleness. I’ve also seen the second books cover and I LOVE it. I can’t wait for y’all to see it.

I recommend this for people who love a good shapeshifting romance with a little mystery. But I think everyone should read this!!!! This is an author that I’m going to keep an eye on. I can’t wait till the next one.

Wishlist Wednesday #9

Wishlist Wednesday is a book blog hop hosted @ Pen to Paper where we will post about one book per week that has been on our wishlist for some time, or just added (it's entirely up to you), that we can't wait to get off the wishlist and onto our wonderful shelves.

Tiffany:

 It began in the graveyard…

Ever since her boyfriend Nathan had died in a tragic accident, Emma had been coming to the graveyard at night.  During the day she went through the motions at her prep school, in class, with her friends, but that’s all it was.  For Emma, life had stopped with Nathan’s death.  But tonight was different.  Tonight Emma and her dog were not alone in the cemetery.  There were two others there—Eric, who had just started at her school, and an ancient woman who looked as though she were made of rags.  And when they saw Emma there, the old woman reached out to her with a grip as chilling as death….

Emma was not quite like others teenagers. It was true that other girls had experienced grief.  Other girls had also lost their fathers, or had their boyfriends die in a senseless accident. But though she hadn’t known it till that night in the graveyard, unlike those other girls, she could see, touch, and speak with the dead.  In fact, Emma could draw upon the essence of the dead to work magic.  That was what Necromancers did. But Emma had no desire to be a Necromancer. She just wanted to help the ghosts who walked the streets of Toronto, unable to escape from the land of the living.  And that was just as well, because had she chosen the path of the Necromancer, Eric would have had to kill her.

Instead, Eric and his fellow Necromancer hunter Chase found themselves violating every rule they were sworn to follow, becoming part of Emma’s group, helping her to stand against those who preyed upon the dead.  But whether Emma and her friends could survive such a battle was anyone’s guess.  And whether Emma could learn to use the magic of the dead against her enemies without herself falling victim to the lure of such power remained to be seen.  Eric seemed to think she could, and her living friends would never abandon her.  But only time would tell what Emma’s true destiny was….

I usually don't read Necromancer books, besides The Darkest Powers series by Kelley Armstrong. I've tried to get into other books like this and I didn't even finish them. This book though got my attention. It sounds like a read that I would enjoy. I really looking forward to reading this.

Juliette has escaped to Omega Point. It is a place for people like her—people with gifts—and it is also the headquarters of the rebel resistance.

She's finally free from The Reestablishment, free from their plan to use her as a weapon, and free to love Adam. But Juliette will never be free from her lethal touch.

Or from Warner, who wants Juliette more than she ever thought possible.

In this exhilarating sequel to Shatter Me, Juliette has to make life-changing decisions between what she wants and what she thinks is right. Decisions that might involve choosing between her heart—and Adam's life

The author has a unique writing style and I am going to count down the days until February 5th, 2013. :D..................................this is taking forever!! D:
